Debuts:

Coldplay's new song called Feelslikeimfallinginlove debuts this week. Or should I say, ColdplaysnewsongcalledFeelslikeimfallinginlovedebutsthisweek. I just decided, I don't love it. It actually became less enjoyable with each listen for me. It's a little bit boring, and the lyrics are no match for other amazing Coldplay songs. (I just noticed an awkwardly placed heart/apart rhyme I didn't catch the first time, and unlike in songs like The Scientist, it does not sound good here.) Still good tho, don't get me wrong.

Gracie Abrams' Close to You comes out of the abyss this week. This is a million times better than Risk. It's got fantastic evolution with a great beat that actually reminds me of We Can't Be Friends by Ariana Grande, in a great way. And the lyrics are a huge step up from Risk. I hope this is a huge hit. (Secret of Us album review in the works)

Definitely could have gone without Mark Ambor's Belong Together debuting at #17. I've reviewed this before since it was in Hitbound a few months ago before it spent ages in the abyss, and my opinion has not changed very much. It's a really boring song and the lyrics are basically just a bunch of generic love song cliches.

Biggest Jump: Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please (+9)

Biggest Drop: Kane Brown & Marshmello - Miles on It & Benson Boone - Slow It Down (-5)

Most missed song: Taylor Swift - Enchanted

Recommendations for Hits 1: Willow - Symptom of Life, Taylor Swift - The Manuscript, Taylor Swift - The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, Billie Eilish - The Greatest

Hitbound:

Raye - Genesis (Re-entry)

Knox - Treadmill (Debut)

Isabel Larosa - Favorite

Ashe - Running out of Time (Debut)

Crash Adams - Hotel Party (Debut)

Bia & Jid - Lights Out

Upsahl - Summer So Hot

Lisa - Rockstar (Debut)

Gracie Abrams & Taylor Swift - Us

Camila Cabello & Drake - Hot Uptown (Debut)

Katseye - Debut (Debut) (this looks kinda weird)

Henry Moodie - Bad Emotions

The Kid Laroi - Girls (Debut)

Lawrence - Whatcha Want

Bibi & Jackson Wang - Feeling Lucky

Imagine Dragons - Nice to Meet You

Looks like Genesis returned from out of the abyss which is great to see.

*sighs* Hits 1, I like it when you pick up on every song by good artists like Havanna Winter, Jessie Murph, Presley Regier, Hayes Warner, etc, but can you seriously stop picking up on every Knox song? But in all seriousness tho, this one's actually... surprisingly good? Probably his best song yet. It's got really well-written lyrics and the productions alright.

And speaking of artists who Hits 1 refuses to give up on and never become hits, Crash Adams is here again with Hotel Party. And this is mediocre at best. The production is really weird and not in a great way, and it just sounds like a worse version of Sugar Mommy.

Ashe is back after a bunch of HB dropouts two years ago, this time with Running out of Time. This is okay but forgettable and kind of boring.

Greaaaat, just what we needed, more weird annoying Blackpink. Lisa is here with Rockstar and it's just not good. It's just what I'd expect from a Blackpink member: overproduced, repetitive, and overall just annoying.

Wow... looks like Camila Cabello's new song Hot Uptown with Drake slightly redeemed herself here. Just slightly tho. I haven't listened to C, XOXO but I might, just to see if there's any other songs like this that are actually somewhat decent or if anything else is more Characterless XCX rip-offs like I Luv It and He Knows that are trying way too hard to sound provocative or something.

Our next debut is a debut called Debut by Katseye. This is ok but very forgettable. Really nothing to say here other than it's a debut called Debut.

The next song is Girls by Kid Laroi, it's kinda annoying but not terrible. Again, nothing interesting to say about it.

Dropouts:

Teddy Swims - Hammer to the Heart

Lay Bankz - Tell Ur Girlfriend

Myles Smith - Stargazing

Wallows - Calling After Me

Post Malone & Blake Shelton - Pour Me a Drink

Jelly Roll - I Am Not Okay

Henry Moodie - Drunk Text

Pour Me a Drink is in the abyss and was the countdown extra so it's probably not gone (unfortunately). I'm Not Okay is also in the abyss which is better to see. Good riddance to Hammer to the Heart, it was getting insanely annoying. Tell Ur Girlfriend was ok but I'm kinda surprised it didn't debut considering how big of a hit it is everywhere else. Stargazing was not going to do anything and I'm fine with that. And Drunk Text really should have been a hit, it's one of my favorite songs of 2024 by far.

Close to blurbs:

We lost The Craving, Obsessed, and Me Myself and Your Eyes. Good riddance to MMAYE. The Craving was alright but I'm okay with it leaving. And Obsessed had a good run and is one of Olivia's slightly less great songs.

Obviously I support Taylor Swift not dying, but Charli XCX's 360 is just not a good song so I don't know why anybody would think that it's better than Taylor at all, let alone that extreme. If you wonder why I call her Characterless XCX, just look at the title of the Brat deluxe version: "Brat and it's the same but there's three more songs so it's not".

Could He Knows please stop taking up space.

Is Beautiful Things just gonna pull a What It Is now?

Yessssssss Please Please Please is almost to the top 20! This is my new dark purple song.

Looks like Risk is on its way out. Close to You & Us are both better so I'm fine with it.

Hopefully IDWW is on its way out also. It sounds like literally every 2010s pop song, and when I hear it on weekdays it gaslights me into thinking it's actually the weekend.

Wow, both Billie Eilish songs held their positions, and still have yet to reach the top half of the countdown. I'm shocked HMHAS isn't performing better, but then again... Taylor Swift exists.

I didn't know until today that Chappell Roan was a backup singer on Guts, but Chappell opened for Olivia at the concert I went to so I knew they had some kind of connection.

A Bar Song would have actually been a somewhat decent song if it weren't for the absolutely stupid lyrics.

It's always a great thing when the green songs on the countdown are almost all near the top.

Sorry Hippo, but it looks like literally anything can happen on Hits 1, so if ICDIWABH can get to the top 10, it can definitely go to #1 on its 13th countdown week and stay there for 13 weeks.

IHSH dropped two spots. Good, let's hope this downward movement continues and it gets blocked from #1.

Espresso is still #1. I'm ok with that for now, and I'm sure Houdini will be up next, but I really hope Please Please Please gets to #1 before IHSH even has a chance.

That's all for now! Byeeeeeeeeee!

Not surprised this happened on the first countdown of summer - Hits 1 Weekend Countdown 6/22/24

Hi! We had an eventful countdown this week. Besides one of the exits and one of the debuts, this week was pretty good, mostly due to a new #1 song. So let's get into it!

Exits:

Muni Long - Made for Me

Justin Timberlake - No Angels

Beyonce & Miley Cyrus - II Most Wanted

Countdown:

#30: Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please (Debut)

#21: Madison Beer - Make You Mine (-7)

#20: Kane Brown & Marshmello - Miles On It (+6)

#19: Gracie Abrams - Risk (+2)

#3: Dua Lipa - Illusion (+1)

#2: Post Malone & Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help (+11)

Last year's #1: Taylor Swift & Ice Spice - Karam

#1: Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (+1)

Debuts:

Please Please Please finally made the countdown this week, and I'm so glad it did. This is my favorite Sabrina song I've heard thus far. Well, besides maybe Nonsense. Either way it's an amazing song. The production is super cool-sounding, and I actually quite like the little key change in the second verse. (Short N Sweet album review is likely)

Meghan Trainor also comes out of the abyss with Whoops, another song with a key change. While this isn't as good as Please Please Please, I still quite like this song. The production is just like what I'd expect from a Meghan song, which of course is quite good. And the lyrics are not her best, but better than some other songs I've heard from her. (Timeless album review is also likely)

I never actually expected this song to debut, but... here we are. Characterless XCX is on the countdown with 360. I guess this is better than Von Dutch, but it's still pretty bad. The production is really boring and annoying and the lyrics are just another one of those "I'm so pretty I'm so pretty I'm so pretty" songs.

Biggest Jump: Eminem - Houdini (+17)

Biggest Drop: Olivia Rodrigo - Obsessed (-13)

Most missed song: Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U

Recommendations: Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue & Diplo - Midnight Ride, Caroline Polachek - Starburned and Unkissed

Hitbound:

Teddy Swims - Hammer to the Heart

Gracie Abrams & Taylor Swift - Us (Debut)

Bia & Jid - Lights Out (Debut)

Coldplay - Feelslikeimfallinginlove (Debut)

Post Malone & Blake Shelton - Pour Me a Drink (Debut)

Lay Bankz - Tell Ur Girlfriend

Henry Moodie - Bad Emotions (Debut)

Upsahl - Summer So Hot (Debut)

Imagine Dragons - Nice to Meet You

Lawrence - Whatcha Want (Debut)

Jelly Roll - I Am Not Okay

Bibi & Jackson Wang - Feeling Lucky (Debut)

Myles Smith - Stargazing

Wallows - Calling After Me

Isabel Larosa - Favorite

Henry Moodie - Drunk Text

Before we get into the Hitbound debuts... why is Popular by The Weeknd, Madonna, Playboi Carti included in the "moment's biggest songs" segment in Hitbound almost every week lately? It left the top 30 eight months ago...

Otherwise, it's another pretty good week. Debuting this week is Gracie Abrams collaborating with Taylor Swift on Us. This is a great song but I do wish Taylor contributed a bit more to it.

I was shocked at how good the new song Lights Out by Bia & Jid was. The production was pretty fun but not too overproduced and everyone sounded really good.

Pour Me a Drink by Post Malone & Blake Shelton unsurprisingly enters Hitbound this week. This is alright. It's better than IHSH but still a bit forgettable.

Ok what is with all these songs being spelled all as one word? Billie Eilish had Idontwannabeyouanymore, Taylor Swift had Imgonnagetyouback, and now Coldplay is doing it on Feelslikeimfallinginlove. And to that I say, istherereallyanysignificancetodoingthisorarepeoplejusttoolazytopressthespacebar? In all seriousness tho, this is an amazing song. The production is really cool and evolves a lot and I love the lyrics too. Definitely not their best song (that would be Coloratura, no contest), but one of the best Hitbound songs at the moment.

Every single year, there's some totally new artist who I didn't know about before and I'm a huge fan of right from the start. This year, that artist has been Henry Moodie. I still love Pick Up the Phone, and although Drunk Text is by far my favorite song I've heard from him, this new song Bad Emotions is also fantastic. The lyrics are very relatable, he sounds great, but the real highlight is the production. It evolves a lot, it honestly sounds like an even better version of Benson Boone's music. Amazing song.

Next up is a newcomer Upsahl with a song that jacks the title from a Chris Brown song from a year ago that I actually sorta enjoyed more than just about everyone else did. But this is Summer So Hot and I like it just as much as the Chris Brown song. It's got pretty nice production, but the lyrics aren't amazing.

Lawrence is next with Whatcha Want. This is okay I guess? It's a bit overproduced and the lyrics are pretty basic, and I'm not a huge fan of the key it's in, but it's not terrible?

And finally, Bibi and Jackson Wang collaborate on Feeling Lucky. The only thing I really remember about this one is that it sounds almost like it samples Feather by Sabrina Carpenter. But I like Feather so this song is still good.

Dropouts:

Dua Lipa - These Walls

Halsey - The End

Raye - Genesis

Gracie Abrams - Close to You

Tyla, Skillibeng, Gunna - Jump

Saweetie - Nani

Knox - Change Your Mind

Good riddance to Change Your Mind. Nani and Jump were kinda mid. Genesis is in the abyss so I hope it debuts. And These Walls, The End and Close to You will be missed.

Bluuuurbs Bluuuurbs Bluuuurbs:

Our exits this week were II Most Wanted, Made for Me, and No Angels. I don't care about No Angels, and Made for Me was alright but I didn't expect it to do anything. But II Most Wanted? That should have done much better.

Me Myself & Your Eyes must leave before it turns red or orange.

Miles On It grew on me a lot so I'm glad it got a nice jump into the top 20.

Interestingly, the only countdown song that held its position from last week was Billie Eilish's Lunch at #18.

Obsessed just dropped as huge as 2023's biggest drop of the year, all the way from the top 3 down to the bottom half of the countdown. I guess I'm fine with that because her other countdown song is much better.

If you thought Fortnight jumping 13 spots to #13 a few months ago was crazy, now track 13 from TTPD is at #13. Now let's see it hit #1 on its 13th week on the countdown, and stay there for 13 weeks.

Can A Bar Song (Tipsy) please stop jumping before it goes blue, red or even orange.

Lol imagine re-entering in the top 10 and then dropping the next week.

No real reason why but Fortnight just grew on me a whole lot this week.

Houdini jumped HUGE this week, all the way from the bottom 10 into the top 5... will this be Eminem's first solo #1 on Hits 1?

Unfortunately, I Had Some Help could likely be #1 soon. Post Malone recently released a snippet of a song called "She Ain't Yours" which I think I'll actually really like when it releases. But IHSH does not deserve any of this success it's getting.

But for now, we do have a new #1, and a completely unsurprising one, Espresso. This song has faded a bit for me but I definitely don't mind this being #1 for now before Houdini gets there. Hopefully at some point Please Please Please will also have a chance at #1 tho.

That's all for now! Byeeeeeeeeee!

This feels like 2023 again - Hits 1 Weekend Countdown 6/15/24

Hi! Wow this is the first time I've gotten a post out on time since... I think since a year ago when I had an actually decent blog. So, this is awkward... I still haven't decided whether or not I feel like continuing my blog and for how long, but... yeah I don't really know. Anyway, for now I'm reviewing this countdown. My song reviews are much more basic and short this time around just because I am no longer as interested in making in-depth reviews of popular music. But even if this is my last countdown review, I hope it's... kinda ok? Like, I'm ready for 1,000+ comments saying "what happened to your interesting perspective on music????" and I'm okay with that... uhm I'm just overdramatic.

So... as for the actual countdown, it was... weird. There were A LOT of movements by one and two, and there were two completely random re-entries. And... yeah I wasn't kidding when I said there are very few great songs on the countdown. I was hoping The End or Please Please Please or at least one of last week's great debuts in Hitbound to make the countdown. But anyway, let's get into it.

Exits:

Ariana Grande - We Can't Be Friends

Sza - Saturn

Countdown:

#30: Tommy Richman - Million Dollar Baby (-2)

#29: Billie Eilish - Birds of a Feather (-2)

#28: Justin Timberlake - No Angels (-2)

#27: Camila Cabello & Lil Nas X - He Knows (-2)

#26: Kane Brown & Marshmello - Miles on It (-5)

#25: David Guetta & OneRepublic - I Don't Wanna Wait (-1)

#24: Muni Long - Made for Me (Re-entry)

#23: Twenty One Pilots - Craving (+6)

#22: Eminem - Houdini (+8)

#21: Gracie Abrams - Risk (+1)

#20: Beyonce & Miley Cyrus - II Most Wanted (+3)

#19: Benson Boone - Beautiful Things (+1)

#18: Billie Eilish - Lunch (+1)

#17: Knox - Me Myself & Your Eyes (+1)

#16: Chappell Roan - Good Luck Babe! (+1)

Countdown Extra: Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please

#15: Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy) (+1)

#14: Madison Beer - Make You Mine (+1)

#13: Post Malone & Morgan Wallen - I Had Some Help (-1)

#12: Taylor Swift - I Can Do It With a Broken Heart (-1)

#11: Benson Boone - Slow It Down (-1)

#10: Ariana Grande - The Boy is Mine (-3)

#9: Olivia Rodrigo - So American (Re-entry) (how tho?)

#8: Teddy Swims - The Door (=)

#7: Dasha - Austin (+2)

#6: Taylor Swift & Post Malone - Fortnight (-1)

#5: Djo - End of Beginning (+1)

#4: Dua Lipa - Illusion (=)

#3: Olivia Rodrigo - Obsessed (=)

#2: Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso (=)

Last year's #1: Taylor Swift & Ice Spice - Karma

#1: Hozier - Too Sweet (=) (6 weeks at #1)

Debuts:

No debuts this week, but a couple re-entries. First up is Muni Long's Made for Me. I don't think I've ever actually done a review of this song since it debuted during my long hiatus, but it's actually a pretty good song. The only thing keeping it from being in the green tier is the chorus is a little boring.

The other re-entry, somehow all the way at #9, is Olivia Rodrigo's So American. This has grown on me a lot. I really like the production here and the lyrics are great. It's definitely not the best song from Guts (spilled) but it's still amazing.

Biggest Jump: Eminem - Houdini (+8)

Biggest Drop: Kane Brown & Marshmello - Miles on It (-5)

Recommendations for Hits 1: Billie Eilish - The Greatest, Taylor Swift - Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

Most missed song: Mitski - My Love Mine All Mine

Hitbouund:

Saweetie - Nani

Imagine Dragons - Nice to Meet You

Charli XCX - 360

Jelly Roll - I Am Not Okay (Debut)

Dua Lipa - These Walls

Wallows - Calling After Me

Lay Bankz - Tell Your Girlfriend

Raye - Genesis

Henry Moodie - Drunk Text

Isabel Larosa - Favorite (Debut)

Gracie Abrams - Close to You

Tyla, Skillibeng, Gunna - Jump

Myles Smith - Stargazing

Teddy Swims - Hammer to the Heart

Halsey - The End

Knox - Change Your Mind

Okayyyy... I can do two debuts. Jelly Roll is back again with I Am Not Okay. This is pretty good. It's got great production and great lyrics.

Isabel Larosa also has another song after that super forgettable Hitbound dropout two years ago I'm Yours. This one is a bit of a step up but nothing too special. It sounds alright but it's also kinda forgettable.

Dropouts:

Meghan Trainor - Whoops

Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please

They're both in the abyss so I really hope they debut.

Blurbra-cadurbra:

We lost We Can't Be Friends and Saturn. They were both getting kinda old so I'm fine with that.

Countdown action was low this week. A bunch of songs at the bottom of the countdown dropped by two spots, and every song from #19-11 only moved by one spot.

Uhmmmm, I was hoping Camila Cabello's second single would be the amazing Camila I knew, like Ariana with Yes, And and We Can't Be Friends, but I just think this new album and era as a whole will just be disappointing. I think she's trying WAY too hard to sound edgier, and it seems like most people agree that she's ripping off Characterless XCX now.

Nice to see one of few great songs on the countdown, Houdini, getting a decent jump.

Can Me Myself & Your Eyes please leave already?

Please Please Please being the countdown extra kinda implies to me that it's not gone yet.

Too Sweet is getting insanely annoying and we need a new #1 before I start hating it. I wouldn't mind having Espresso or Obsessed be the next #1, but I really want to see Austin hit #1 although that's kind of unlikely.

That's all for now! Byeeeeeeeeee!

Saturday, June 8, 2024

um... hi?

Oh great, I'm doing one of these now. Take a look at these two sentences below:

"I plan on maybe doing a mini countdown catchup post soon since I missed a bunch of weeks of the countdown"

"Now that I have more time for blog posts this might be a temporary weekly thing for now"

These two sentences were things that I said in my last two blog posts... right before my longest absence ever. (Of course, besides the time between September and December last year where my blog was deactivated.)

As you can see, neither of those things I said ended up being true, and frankly, the opposite happened. Not only have I not gotten out a single post in over a month, but I also stopped updating my weekly Crownnote chart. So basically, for the past few weeks, I've been pretty much completely inactive... and it was right after I had planned two specific posts that were coming up... that didn't end up happening. Just from reading my blog, you may have noticed a bit of a problem I have sometimes: I say I'm gonna do something, and just never do it.

My blog used to be the opposite of that: back when I first started getting my blog popularized online, I would consistently get posts out at 9 AM on Saturday, basically the second the countdown ended (there was only one time when I had to delay a post until Sunday), and I actually was able to make creative and kinda fun reviews. And on my newer blog, my reviews started turning repetitive and robotic-sounding, and you would have been lucky to see a countdown review of any kind from me before Wednesday or Thursday that week... and then I had no countdown posts after April 12. Yes, I seriously haven't posted a single countdown review since the week when Espresso was just released.

There's really only one reason why I stopped posting consistently on my blog. No, I wasn't "busy" like I've been saying for the past few months. I was just starting to lose interest in what pop music was playing. A lot of songs lately have been uninteresting, unoriginal, and just kinda sound the same. And for a while, that made blog posts really tedious, because even for great songs, I felt like I was saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over about every single new song.

Shockingly, the only songs on the countdown right now that I still enjoy hearing just as much or more than I initially did are the two country songs (Beyonce & Miley's II Most Wanted & Dasha's Austin). Even Billie Eilish's new album (although it was fantastic) had a bunch of songs that I kinda forget about right after I listen to them, and Hits 1 conveniently picked up on the two most uninteresting songs from the album. (Speaking of Billie Eilish, I'm not going to say I will post an album review of Hit Me Hard and Soft, because then if I don't it'll be a whole thing, but I'll just say I might.)

I will say, I kinda enjoyed doing album reviews. TTPD was fun to review. I suppose Eternal Sunshine wasn't as interesting, but it was still cool. And reviewing the Olivia albums again to see how much my opinions changed was also pretty fun to do. However, I've listened to some new albums lately, and besides maybe HMHAS, most of them don't seem like something I'd wanna do a song-by-song review of. Radical Optimism was radically boring, and the only song I find myself actively relistening to is These Walls. Cowboy Carter is just too long and bizarre for me to bring myself to make a full review of it. And Brat is probably just terrible so I don't feel like listening to it at all.

Well overall, music lately has been pretty dead, and not much interesting stuff going on in the past few weeks, so I considered just quitting my blog now and ending it there, because trying to crank out a weekly countdown review would just feel like a chore...

...that is, until this week. We had the best Hitbound in a while, and for the first time (ever, I think), every single debut was deserving of at least a "great" rating. So, I'm actually going to (at least for now) start reviewing the countdown again. My opinions have changed a lot, so when that post comes out (which it will and I swear on the universe this isn't gonna be another one of those things where it never happens) don't be surprised if the countdown looks a little more pink and yellow than usual.

I started thinking about writing this earlier this week because I just didn't feel like my blog would last too much longer and I wanted you all to know that... well, I'm alive. But after hearing Friday's Hitbound - yes, just one Hitbound - I decided I feel like blogging again. No, I won't be continuing my Crownnote though, because I don't typically like random awkward gaps... and most likely, Teenage Dream would have to get excluded from the list just for the sole purpose of letting other songs be #1.

But anyway, thanks for reading my blog everyone. I'm very close to 1,500 pageviews now! Once I get 2,000 pageviews, I will do a rankdown of every song in the universe ever!

(Okay, that was a joke, but for real tho I will do something for when I get 2,000 views, I just haven't decided yet)

That's all for now! Byeeeeeeeee!

This is the most recent post!

The Top 10 Worst Songs Of 2024

*sigh* Since you waited two months for me to come back and post something else, and last year you waited four months for me to release my 20...

You should not be viewing these posts so much. It's too much.
